Wilmington Dream Center: Transitional Housing
When one finds oneself in a crises situation such as homelessness, one is often best served by taking time out to assess personal patterns and choices, and plan a strategy that will lead in new directions.  Wilmington Dream Center is a safe and empowering place where women and families in crises can regroup, and begin to change behaviors and learn new skills that will enable them to go out into the marketplace more confident and stable.  They gain knowledge, improve their mental and physical health, and ultimately achieve permanent housing and self-sufficiency.

Wilmington Dream Center: Transitional Housing (WDC:TH) facilitates this personal growth by a deep commitment to building in every resident the foundations of spiritual, mental, and physical well being.  To this end, case management identifies unsound financial, emotional, and relational situations and strategizes with residents to change each unhealthy trend.  This is done by WDC:TH’s Director meeting with individual residents each week, dissecting the roots of their current crises, and designing a goal plan that includes gaining permanent housing, increasing income, and empowerment through supportive activities. Residents are assisted in identifying affordable permanent housing, connecting to mainstream resources such as food stamps and WorkFirst, gaining employment, enrolling in GED or college courses, planning monthly budgets, saving and spending appropriately, and building positive relationships through attending supportive groups such as church services, AA meetings, or other empowering activities.  Mental health is addressed by a licensed practical counselor whose services are provided to residents as part of their stay at Wilmington Dream Center.

Residents are interviewed and fill out an essay detailing the dreams of their hearts and what they think they are called to do in their lives.  Wilmington Dream Center creates a plan finding the road to their dreams and helps residents adopt that path through their work in the program. There are opportunities for friends of First Fruit Ministries to teach and share talents and information with residents of Wilmington Dream Center.  Please contact us to see how you can be a part of what the Lord is doing in the lives of our residents!
